I never though it would be so easy. The i7-920 was running at 2.67 GHz. I bought an i7-975 for $45 on eBay. It runs at 3.33 GHz. Just be careful getting the wires out of the way, remove 4 screws to pull the cooling unit, clean the thermal paste that was hardened like old gray paint, take out the old one, super easy, just lift the lever, lift the hinged frame, take the old, drop the new aligning 2 tabs, piece of cake, I have photos, put a drop of fresh thermal paste on it, connect the fan before dropping it into place (on this system it is hard to plug/unplug the fan with the fan attached), then the 4 screws, reconnect anything that you disconnected to make room to work (one memory module to disconnect the fan comfortably and the cables on all drives). Done! Well, when it boots, if you check at CTRL Panel>System it shows the old processor (scary) and a refresh on Device Manager does not change that (scarier). You have to restart the machine, not even shutdown, just restart will do it. I will post benchmarks. It took me longer to write this post than to do the swap.
XTU (CPU i7-720 >> i7-795): XTU benchmark 264 >> 322 (22% faster)
Abaqus SE Standard, typical job: 5'34" >> 4'47" (14% faster, it's not just CPU, read/write to SATA SSD and 24GB DDR3 memory)

A minor problem, Workstation Player WS14 and WS15 are not supported on the i7-975, but that WS12 is supported.
